Our History

The LOA was founded on April 8, 1963. We are a 501(c)(6) not for profit organization.

We were founded by Officers from the Baltimore County Police Department’s Auxiliary Unit. Their goal in forming the LOA was and still is:

(1)  To secure a closer official and personal relationship between the Law Enforcement officers and agencies  of the State of Maryland.

 (2) To foster and perpetuate a friendly relationship with the citizens and youth within the State of Maryland by establishing and promoting a mutual understanding and cooperation between these citizens and youth and those officers and agencies engaged in Law Enforcement activities.

(3) Evaluate, discuss, and suggest methods of preventing and or combating crime in the State of Maryland.

Our membership is open to active and retired law enforcement officers on the Federal, State, and Local levels, and to those who support our mission and law enforcement in general. Please see Join Us for more information on becoming a member.

The LOA supports our members by offering two $500 college scholarships awarded on a competitive basis.

We have 6 general membership meetings which are catered and present opportunities for all members and guests to develop fellowship with other law officers, and supporters.

The LOA makes multiple donations to other charities in the Baltimore area. As determined by the LOA Board of Directors, direct donations are made to law enforcement officers and or their families who are in distress through no fault of their own.
